Our mission at Halo is to move science forward. One of Fast Company’s 2021 “World Changing Ideas,” Halo’s platform connects scientists directly with companies to bring new innovations to the world. We work with the R&D teams at some of the most iconic companies – including Bayer, P&G and PepsiCo – on topics ranging from sustainability to human health. Since going live in January 2020, more than 8,000 scientists from 100+ countries have joined. We are venture-backed by Asymmetric Capital, Village Global, Lightbank, Anne Wojcicki (CEO of 23&Me), Lenny Rachitsky’s Air Angels (Airbnb angel group) and other top-tier investors.

Halo is looking for a senior product leader to own and operate the core product of our business, the marketplace, optimizing key levers to drive utilization and fulfillment. Reporting directly to the CEO and partnering closely with Design, Engineering and Business Development, the Head of Marketplace will be a member of senior leadership and an influential architect of the company's strategic direction. In this dynamic, startup environment, adaptability and a proactive mindset are key. We are seeking someone eager to embrace and drive change, ready to tackle new challenges head-on, and play a crucial role in scaling an early-stage startup.

What You'll Do:

  • Drive the roadmap for all marketplace initiatives, including the development of Roboscout, our AI-scouting tool, and internal operational systems to improve matching and marketplace liquidity
  • Oversee end-to-end RFP operations and fulfillment to ensure RFPs are launched on schedule and customers consistently receive high-quality, relevant proposals
  • Audit existing processes and identify areas for improvement and automation
  • Define, track and report on key metrics for assessing RFP performance and marketplace health that drive actionable insights
  • Build compelling, data-driven cases for targeting industry verticals and research categories on the supply or demand side
  • Incorporate growth loops into product usage that fuel compounding network growth and accelerate network effects
  • Create explicit or implicit community standards leveraging carrots/sticks and social proof that encourage desirable behaviors, instill trust and drive repeat engagement
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Design and Customer Success to understand business needs, prioritize features and scope requirements
  • Manage two direct reports - Platform Operations Specialist and Partnership Specialist - and a team of five part-time Technology Scouts (PhD scientists)

Who You Are:

  • You have 7+ years of experience in product management, growth, operations or consulting roles that require data-driven decision-making, ideally at a fast-growing startup and/or marketplace business
  • You have 2+ years of experience in a leadership role managing people and working cross-functionally
  • You are a highly-analytical problem-solver adept at translating quantitative data and qualitative insights into thoughtful roadmap decisions
  • You have prior experience with 2-sided marketplaces and are intimately familiar with the supply and demand levers for optimizing marketplace liquidity
  • You have experience developing, prioritizing, and communicating product roadmaps that align with business objectives
  • You are able to deeply empathize with users and customers to address their underlying pain points with elegantly simple solutions
  • You think in systems and excel at turning ambiguity into structure and operational efficiency
  • You take your work seriously but don’t take yourself too seriously. While technically a job, this shouldn’t feel like work because you're inspired by the mission and energized by the challenge

Bonus Points:

  • You have a science-related degree or industry experience in science or R&D
  • You've been an instrumental player on an early startup team before.

What we offer:

  • Share in the upside. Early employees have an outsized impact on a startup’s success. It’s only fair that you receive meaningful equity in return.
  • Donate to research. Make a donation to scientific research you care about and we’ll match your donation dollar-for-dollar.
  • Volunteer for research. Participate in a research study through ResearchMatch, a nonprofit funded by the NIH, and get a $200 bonus check.
  • Stay healthy. We don’t ever want your health to be a source of stress and offer top-of-the-line medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Escape for the Winter. From December to March, Halo will fly you anywhere in the country to escape the cold and get some Vitamin D.
