Senior Hardware Engineer

Eagle Wireless is a connectivity company delivering secure, reliable, and scalable cellular modules and solutions for automotive and IoT applications. With a strong presence in the United States and global R&D teams across North America, Europe, and APAC, Eagle Wireless supports customers worldwide with long-life, compliant, and cyber-secure connectivity products. Focused on trust, supply chain resilience, and regulatory compliance, Eagle Wireless helps OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and IoT innovators deploy connected technologies with confidence in an increasingly complex global environment.

We are looking for: Senior Hardware Engineer

The Senior Hardware Engineer is a core individual contributor role embedded in Eagle’s global R&D organization, working directly with the CTO and engineering leads across Solon, Minneapolis, Belgrade, Penang, and Germany. You will own hardware design from concept through production release — schematics, PCB layout, bring-up, validation, and certification — on cellular IoT and automotive connectivity modules. This is hands-on engineering work at the intersection of RF, mixed-signal hardware, and cellular connectivity, building the modules that power connected vehicles and IoT devices worldwide. Eagle is looking for an engineer who brings both deep hardware fundamentals and a genuine, practiced fluency with AI tools — someone who uses AI to move faster, reduce error, and deliver higher-quality designs, not just someone who is aware it exists. This position is based in the Solon, OH area or Minneapolis, MN area.

Key Requirements

Hardware Design & Development

  • Design and develop cellular IoT and automotive connectivity modules from concept through production release.
  • Own schematic capture, PCB layout review, and design-for-manufacturability across the product line.
  • Define and execute hardware bring-up, debug, and validation for new module designs.
  • Develop and execute test plans covering RF performance, power consumption, thermal behavior, EMC/EMI, and reliability.
  • Own root cause analysis and corrective action for hardware failures in development and production.
  • Maintain design documentation, test reports, schematics, and revision history to production standards.

RF & Connectivity

• Design and validate RF front-end circuitry, antenna integration, impedance matching, and RF shielding.

• Characterize and optimize cellular protocol stack interactions at the hardware level across 4G LTE, LTE-M, NB-IoT, and 5G.

• Support hardware qualification and regulatory certification activities including FCC, CE, PTCRB, GCF, and applicable automotive standards (UNECE, ISO 26262).

AI-Assisted Engineering

• Apply AI tools actively in design review, simulation setup, signal integrity analysis, and power integrity verification.

• Use generative AI to accelerate authoring of test scripts, design specifications, failure analysis reports, and qualification documentation.

• Evaluate and recommend AI tooling relevant to hardware engineering workflows; help establish team-wide best practices.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Work

• Collaborate with firmware and software teams to ensure hardware/software co-design alignment from early architecture through validation.

• Partner with manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure designs are producible at scale and support DFM/DFT objectives.

• Work directly with the CTO and R&D leadership on product roadmap decisions and next-generation module architecture.

• Coordinate with global engineering teams across Penang, Belgrade, and Germany on shared development programs.

• Support customer technical engagement including design-in guidance, application support, and field issue resolution.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hardware engineering experience in cellular, IoT, RF, or automotive connectivity products.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium Designer strongly preferred; KiCad or equivalent considered).
  • Hands-on RF design experience: antenna integration, impedance matching, RF shielding, and cellular protocol hardware characterization (4G/5G).
  • Experience with hardware bring-up, bench debug, and validation across RF, power, and digital domains.
  • Familiarity with regulatory certification processes: FCC, CE, PTCRB, and/or automotive homologation.
  • Demonstrated, practical use of AI tools in an engineering workflow — actual practice, not just awareness.
  • Strong analytical and debug skills across hardware, firmware, and system-level interactions.
  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Must be based in or willing to relocate to the Solon, OH or Minneapolis, MN area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with automotive-grade hardware standards: AEC-Q100/Q200 qualification, ISO 26262 hardware requirements, or IATF 16949 design controls.
  • Familiarity with UNECE WP.29 / ISO/SAE 21434 cybersecurity hardware requirements.
  • Experience with Qualcomm, MediaTek, or similar cellular chipset platforms at the module design level.
  • Background in MIMO antenna design, diversity switching, or multi-band RF architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with signal integrity simulation tools (HyperLynx, Cadence Sigrity, or equivalent).
  • Experience with Cadence EDA tools, including OrCAD for schematic capture and/or Allegro for PCB layout, is a plus.
  • Exposure to SMT manufacturing processes, DFM review, and production test fixture design.
  • Experience with PTCRB/GCF certification and carrier acceptance testing for cellular modules.
  • Familiarity with hardware security architectures: secure boot, eFuse provisioning, or HSM integration.
  • Prior experience at a cellular module manufacturer, chipset vendor, or Tier 1 automotive electronics supplier.

What We Offer

  • A high-impact individual contributor role with direct visibility to the CTO and meaningful influence on Eagle’s product roadmap and next-generation module architecture.
  • The opportunity to design cutting-edge cellular connectivity products across automotive and industrial IoT segments, on both established and next-generation 5G platforms.
  • The chance to help establish engineering processes and quality standards in a new Eagle-owned factory currently under construction in Solon — a greenfield opportunity on top of existing manufacturing operations.
  • International environment and open culture: we communicate directly, assess ourselves honestly, and enjoy working as a team across North America, Europe, and APAC.
  • Continuous learning and “on the job” development: we invest in our people and support intentional career growth.
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus a profit share scheme tied to company performance.
  • Comprehensive health care coverage and other competitive benefits.
  • Social and employee events including an annual team building trip.
