Our mission at Halo is to move science forward. One of Fast Company’s 2021 “World Changing Ideas,” Halo’s platform connects scientists directly with companies to bring new innovations to the world. We work with the R&D teams at global, iconic companies – including Bayer, P&G and PepsiCo – on topics ranging from sustainability to human health. Since going live in January 2020, more than 9,000 scientists from 100+ countries have joined. We are venture-backed by Asymmetric Capital, Village Global, Lightbank, Marketplace Capital, Anne Wojcicki (CEO of 23&Me), Lenny Rachitsky’s Air Angels (Airbnb angel group) and other top-tier investors.

Halo is looking for a Partnerships Lead to manage, engage and expand its global network of ecosystem partners - universities, accelerators, associations, etc. - and help shape new product features based on their unique needs and interests. Central to this role, you will serve as the program director on a $1.2M initiative funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) focused on connecting industry partners with researchers at Emerging Research Institutes (ERIs)—universities that receive less than $50 million in federal funding and lack robust tech transfer or corporate relations infrastructure. Your primary role as the program director will be to foster relationships with ERIs, understand their unique challenges, manage the development of product features to address these challenges, and promote the use of the Halo platform among their administrators and faculty.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop a comprehensive strategy to achieve project goals and then closely execute; Closely track and regularly report to internal stakeholders on progress toward overall project goals and milestones
  • Act as the primary liaison with the NSF, providing quarterly updates and ensuring compliance with grant requirements
  • Conduct qualitative research (alongside Design) with ERIs to gain a deep understanding of their unique needs and challenges and how Halo can address them
  • Act as a bridge between university admins and the product team, representing their voice to inform and prioritize product improvements, feature requests and new offerings.
  • Enlist influential stakeholders at ERIs to promote Halo among their faculty, encourage new registrations and drive repeat engagement on the platform
  • Collaborate with ERI admins to develop pages on Halo that accurately represent their university’s key strengths and capabilities, making them searchable and discoverable by industry
  • Work with Marketing and partner organizations (e.g. professional associations, trade groups, accelerators) to co-create thought leadership events, webinars, and other outreach activities targeting ERI admins, researchers and industry
  • Work with Design to create educational materials—case studies, one-pagers, presentations—that can be used to communicate a compelling story about the value and benefits actively participating in the program
  • Establish clear KPIs and metrics to track activation and engagement among individual ERIs
  • Document early learnings to create a repeatable playbook for onboarding and activating new ERIs that can be quickly adopted and scaled
  • Attend relevant industry events, conferences and universities to nurture relationships and heighten Halo’s visibility in the space
  • Serve as trusted advisor and front-line point of contact to Halo’s global network of ecosystem partners

Who you are:

  • You have 7+ years of experience in program management, partnerships or business development, preferably in tech, R&D, academia or government
  • You have 5+ years of customer-facing experience (customer success, business development or partnerships)
  • You have experiencing launching a new initiative or building something from scratch
  • You are a project management pro, known for your organization, attention to detail, and respect for deadlines
  • You can work cross-functionally with teams in product, marketing, sales, customer success and business operations
  • You are a skilled verbal and written communicator and hold your own in a room with senior stakeholders
  • You have a bias for action and thrive in an unpredictable, fast-paced work environment
  • You are passionate about our mission to “move science forward”
  • You take your work seriously but don’t take yourself too seriously. While technically a job, this shouldn’t feel like work because you're inspired by the mission and energized by the challenge

Bonus points if:

  • You have experience managing federally-funded programs and familiarity with NSF reporting requirements
  • You have a strong understanding of academic institutions and the government grant writing process

What we offer:

  • Share in the upside. Early employees have an outsized impact on a startup’s success. It’s only fair that you receive meaningful equity in return.
  • Donate to research. Make a donation to scientific research you care about and we’ll match your donation dollar-for-dollar.
  • Volunteer for research. Participate in a research study through ResearchMatch, a nonprofit funded by the NIH, and get a $200 bonus check.
  • Stay healthy. We don’t ever want your health to be a source of stress and offer top-of-the-line medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Escape for the Winter. From December to March, Halo will fly you anywhere in the country to escape the cold and get some Vitamin D.
